Last year, around the world, a woman was killed every 10 minutes by an intimate partner or family member. Globally, an estimated 1 in 3 women have been subjected to physical or sexual violence as well as other forms of domestic abuse at least once in their lifetime.
In this documentary, Sabrina Banks, a survivor of teen sexual assault, grapples with the devastating consequences of her experience: PNES – psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, flashbacks and other symptoms of PTSD and complex trauma.”
But the vision for this film was not to simply observe a survivor’s life. Instead, Sabrina creates her own narrative, using writing and language to regain agency over her story. Her will to raise awareness overpowers her fears, as she approaches healing from different angles.
“Restoration” is a film about post-traumatic growth, a process that transforms traumatic events into hope and positive perspectives, deepening and sustaining resilience for those who experience this powerful journey.
It is also a film about the role of men in today’s world, highlighting the perspectives of Sabrina’s father, Darnell, and her husband, Tim. They have become advocates for women’s rights, embodying qualities like safety, emotional accountability, and nurturing that oppose toxic masculinity and fuel hope for a better future.
This film is meant to be a rebellious act against hopelessness and stagnation, urging viewers to unite against violence and restore human dignity through courage and radical kindness wherever possible.
